What happens at the visit
Here it is, step by step.
The doctor asks for the test
This happens in your room, while the doctor is with you.
You give the sample
We take a drop of blood from your fingertip.
Our lab does the test
It is done here, in the same building.
You get the result the same day
The doctor goes through it with you and explains what it means. If you need medicines, you get them from our dispensary before you leave. You go home with a printed note of your visit.
Before you come
You can eat before this test. Eat and drink as normal.
Whenever you want to know if you have HIV. It is one of the usual tests in pregnancy. It is also useful after any risk, at the start of a new relationship, or when an illness keeps coming back. We talk with you before and after the test, in private.
